when march looks like this

in a strange turn of events (or global warming – whichever), it is currently in the high 70s in Syracuse when at this time of year we would usually be knee-deep in snow. Today, there were literally hundreds of students tanning out on the quad.

also, we just made it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA basketball tournament, and I can still hear honking, firecrackers, and cheers on the street.

basically, I can’t stop smiling.

little updates

{Israel}

{1} Last night I spent the night at the hospital in excruciating pain. If you are a good soul, you might want to visit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and make a donation so that some smart pharmacist out there will come up with a cure someday.

{It would be extra cool if that smart pharmacist was Mike. I think he’s smart enough, don’t you think?}

{2} This morning, I still went to class. I kind of want of wanted to keel over and die.

That being said, I really love my classes this semester. Learning more about photography? Yes please! And who knew I was good at drawing fashion illustrations? Apparently, I am kind of decent.

{maybe I will sell fashion illustrations on Etsy rather than jewelry since…I still don’t know how to make jewelry…but Papi’s girlfriend does, and she’s promised to teach me}

{3} My roommate Jessica is taking a medical leave of absence this semester and I am kind of depressed about it.

{when I asked Mike, “why is everyone dying!?” – NOT THAT ANYONE IS ACTUALLY DYING, by the way – he goes, “2012 baby”}

{4} Mikos (“the mucus”) seems to be doing better. But he’s teething bad. Bastard bit me so hard the other day.

{5} I have a tumblr now. It’s for one of my classes, but I am kind of in love. Also, I have no idea how tumblr works…

{6} I am going to le city this weekend to take care of some business (medical and professional). Also, so that I can go to Whole Foods (what, do you really expect me to go this long without a Whole Foods?) and Peanut Butter & Co. (speaking of, the other day they tweeted me and I felt so famous). I love New York.

And food, clearly.

{7} the end.

snow!

I can assure you that I am the only person in the entire 315 area code that was excited to wake up to this, especially after the horrid past winter we just had. But I don’t care! I love snow!

basketball

December in Syracuse means one thing: basketball.

Last night, I went to the SU vs. Florida game with Katelyn (who talks in her sleep and occasionally walks like a penguin).

It was awesome.

Oh yeah, we won.

No big deal.

p.s. my tattoo isn’t crooked. I’m just bending my wrist weirdly in that photo.

thornden park

Thornden Park has a bad reputation here at Syracuse. It is where The Lovely Bones author Alice Sebold was brutally assaulted and raped. Freshmen are always warned not to walk by the park late at night.

My roommate Jessica and I took a walk to the park to take pictures today. It’s been beautiful out; the perfect fall day. But there’s something just so eerie about Thornden Park…we walked to the amphitheater where Sebold was raped and I couldn’t help but feel very creeped out and uncomfortable (on a side note: the amphitheater is very deep inside the park. I don’t mean to belittle what happened to her in any way – of course not, especially as a survivor of sexual abuse myself – but what in the world was she doing in there so late at night?).

I might have nightmares tonight.

i am a college student

(The other two girls in this post are Jessica and Tapper. Jessica is one of my roommates and Tapper is our neighbor. The three of us will be living together next year.)

Luckily I am not one of those college students that subsists off a diet consisting of ramen noodles and leftover pizza. Because Jessica is an amazing cook. She made us apple crisp tonight.

Um, YUM.

(Except I’m not supposed to have apples because of my Crohn’s. Shh.)

Also, Jessica refused to be photographed, so I included a picture of her hand instead. Classy.

meet pharaoh the beta fish (oh, and i’m alive)

Isn’t he the cutest?

Not as cute as Justin Bobby. But, you know, cute for a fish, anyways. Also, I must apologize because he will not stay still for pictures. He’s a little swimmer, this one. Kind of like Justin Bobby (actually, Justin Bobby is more of a jumper. Sometimes I’m convinced he thinks he’s a kangaroo).

Anyway, I am so sorry I haven’t been posting as regularly lately. College is…well, college. And I’m busy. With homework. And friends. And drinking.

Jaykay. I don’t drink. I would never do that.

Also, guess what? Good news! I got a job!

I’m also applying to volunteer at the rape crisis center here on campus. No better way to turn a horrible traumatic experience into a positive one, right? By helping others who are going through similar pain.

I promise I’ll try to post more regularly from now on…I just needed to get used to my new schedule!

back to school

So, school started today. I always get so excited for the new school year to begin (go ahead and call me a nerd). And I have a feeling that this is going to be an amazing one, you know? Especially because of the classes I’m taking (like fashion history and diversity in fashion and beauty media and history through film! I love. I’m also taking not-so-fun classes, of course) and the fact that I’ve already made new friends.

I went to Pet Smart and bought a fishie today. I named him Pharaoh because Mike’s Egyptian. My new friends Jess and Tapper also bought their own fish. I can’t wait to blog about Pharaoh soon. Also, at Pet Smart, a lady brought in a Yorkie and let me pet her. She reminded me of Justin Bobby!

I love the way I’ve put my room together. It feels very homey, not dorm-like at all. Right now, my roommates and I are working on the apartment. Hopefully it’ll look nice.

Also, the weather was beautiful today (um, Syracuse? Is that you?).

syracuse

(photo taken last winter. Syracuse doesn’t ALWAYS look like this…although it’s looking pretty damn close right now)

I’m back in Syracuse. Halle-freaking-lujah. Thank God.

I’m tired. I don’t even want to eat dinner. I just want to crash and sleep until forever.

Last night was crazy. Screaming, yelling, tears, accusations, lies, rumors, manipulations, child protective services, the cops, a judge…but now my dad has custody of my sister.

I always knew good would triumph over evil in the end.

I’m glad, because my sister deserves to be safe. Because I wasn’t.
